EU Parliament: Dr Bertolini presents study on liability for drones

Andrea Bertolini, a researcher in International and European Private Law of the Dirpolis (Law, Politics and Development) Institute, will present his study on liability rules for drones commissioned by the European Parliament’s Policy Department for Citizens’ Rights and Constitutional Affairs at the request of the JURI Committee on Monday, April 1st, 2019.

The study analyses existing European and national legislation on the regulation of drones for civil use. Based on the European Approach to AI (dated 25 April 2018) and the EU's sustainable approach to emerging technologies, the study elaborates recommendations for future policy formulation related to liability or potentially biased decision-making.

The study by Andrea Bertolini is developed in the “law and technology” field of research at Sant’Anna School. The EU and EU projects such as Robolaw must ensure that AI is developed and applied in an appropriate framework that promotes citizens’ rights as well as ethical principles. Andrea Bertolini, as the coordinator of a Jean Monnet module at Sant’Anna School Jean Monnet “Centre of Excellence on the Regulation of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence – EURA” and the and researchers working in the Institutes of Economics, Management, TeCIP, and Biorobotics are well placed to lead the debate on the regulation of robotics and artificial intelligence.
